I'm a big fan of the narrative focus here. The reaper guy bringing the souls down a trip of their lives after death is really bittersweet to see, especially after the soul commented on it.
The only thing I would try to work on would be getting a theme for the actual levels themselves. I don't mean in design, but I mean getting access to a tile set to use for the stages.
The art that WAS there, it's got a lot of charm! Passing by each photo and taking in the style was a reward in and of itself.
This really is a great game jam game. It's not long, overstaying it's welcome, it's not overbearing, but it doesn't fail to deliver a good and interesting story. It made me want to know more about Casey, which, for a small, first game, is incredible. Great job, great game :). If anything, cutting back on the gameplay to highlight the story I think would be better - the only bad thing is that I couldn't much enjoy the platforming, but I think if you improve the art a bit, that issue will go away. All in all, it's a really good game, and you should be very proud!
The story is so touching for the short playtime of the game. The music is very fitting too. I also loved the animations! Hopefully if/when the game is updated, we will see more of the little reaper guy! And to think that was your first game... please keep making them!
No complaints here other than maybe allowing text to be sped up a little and maybe adding a bit of random pitch changing to change up the sound a little :)
Hey, for your first game ever this is not bad at all! I really liked the story here, and the music selection and sound design as a whole is more than great.
Didn´t mind that much any of the issues you mentioned, and for the type of game this is I think the level design works fine. On a graphics way it could look better, but at least it doesn't distract from the characters and images used for the storytelling, which is the real important part.
Overall excellent job! If you do continue this game, please don't neglect the writing and storytelling, I think those are the game's strongest points :)
